Racial Justice
Where to Give:
Racial inequality is one of the most pervasive and corrosive issues of our time. Through my experience volunteering in Rhode Island state prisons, I saw first-hand how vast inequities in the U.S. are being played out. Black people are five times more likely than white people to be stopped without just cause by law enforcement. If Black and Hispanic people were arrested at the same rate as whites, our incarcerated population would drop by nearly 40% (NAACP).
This unequal treatment in our penal system is one of many manifestations of racial injustice our country. We need to address and dismantle our racist system and take action toward equality in the United States. Furthermore, we need to use our resources to empower and amplify the voices of Black, brown, and native communities.
To ensure that racial justice gets the focus it deserves, this $500,000 matching pool is dedicated towards nonprofits whose missions are to combat systemic racism, advance racial justice, and to nonprofits that have clearly identified programs to do the same.
